We the 33

We the 33 is a youth-led event series where young people share their experiences, express themselves creatively, and speak directly to adults who can make change.

What is We the 33?

Our flagship youth voice events are called We the 33% – reflecting that one in three people in Bristol and South Gloucestershire are under 25. Young people who attend these events share their voices and opinions to key decision-makers in the region, who have been invited as keynote listeners. The young people are able to speak about how they feel and discuss the real issues impacting their lives. These events aim to create change and make Bristol & South Gloucestershire a place they want to live, work and thrive.

“We should be a lot more focused on what young people need because our generation is a generation that repeatedly voices its needs and is repeatedly ignored.”

How it works:

Every event has its own character, designed and delivered by young people with our support, on topics that matter to them.

Young people speak; decision makers listen. At each event, “keynote listeners” — businesses, local authorities, and professionals — set aside time to hear young people’s stories, ideas and concerns and make pledges based on what they hear.

Real issues get real attention. The topics cover whatever young people identify as important: mental health services, LGBTQ+ rights, violence reduction, climate justice, access to safe spaces, and more.

Creative voices matter. Sometimes the conversation is through art, music, spoken word, films, photography or poetry. Other times it’s discussion, debate and direct feedback to those with power.

Youth-led and inclusive. Young people design, host and lead the events — shaping the agenda, choosing the topics, and deciding who to invite. CYN creates welcoming spaces, including quiet zones, BSL / accessible  provisions and safe environments
