ED&I in Recruitment

Creative Youth Network pride ourselves on giving opportunities to people of all walks of life and all class backgrounds. This includes people who identify as D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, are early in their careers or come from groups who experience racial inequality.

We are committed to becoming a more diverse and inclusive workplace, and this is embedded in our organisational strategy.

ED&I Working Group

Within our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion working group, we have made steps to reinstate our recruitment sub-group to address demographics underrepresented in our staff team. We have a plan to ensure that more young people can see themselves reflected in the youth workers and staff members they have trusting relationships with.

What steps are we taking?

  • We’re actively reviewing our application process, advertising, and encouraging pathways throughout the organization.
  • We’re responding to regular ‘Suggestion Box’ feedback from staff about ways to improve staff experience.
  • We’re using Bristol & South Glos census data as a baseline to set realistic targets to diversify our workforce.

Our ED&I conversations progress as we continue to hold space for staff and young people to share their experiences with us

In June 2024 our ED&I group held an all staff meeting (ED&I focussed meetings are held periodically throughout the year) to discuss how we can best celebrate diversity and what an active inclusive organizational culture looks like. Here are some thoughts from our team:

Openness a space to ask questions, express views on a subject without fear (within reason)

Representation of yourself in the people you work with (looks, background, like-mindedness)

Elements of open forum, educational aspect, freedom to learn

Feel held in challenging situations
